Just a few weeks remain until the Pixel 8 debuts, but the rumoured Google Pixel 8a has surprisingly leaked online ahead of schedule.

This morning, @yabhishekhd uploaded pictures of what appears to be the Google Pixel 8a on Twitter/X. This early glimpse may be the first time we've ever seen a Google smartphone in hands-on pictures. The leaked image depicts a smartphone with two cameras hidden inside a pill-shaped cutout, and the entire thing is coloured blue, just like leaked images of the Pixel 8 Pro.

The photographs also reveal the phone's redesigned shape, which is more similar to what we've seen of the rest of the Pixel 8 series and significantly more rounded in the corners than the previous Pixel 7a. The phone's metal features a matte surface on the sides, but a glossy coating on the back, similar to what the Pixel 7a offered.

One shot of the device's front reveals the display, which by contemporary standards has quite large bezels but very rounded corners. Yet given that PIxel A-Series devices have always made concessions in this area, this is not surprising.

It is rumoured that the Pixel 8a will have the codename "Akita" and operate on a Tensor G3 chip, which is to be expected. In a purported roadmap of Google's Pixel plans until 2025, that codename initially surfaced.
